Cleaning your floor

• Vacuum and damp mop with lukewarm water.
• After every 4th damp mopping, apply Ancestral® Residential Cleaner.

Maintaining your floor

The water repellent Ancestral® oils make the maintenance of your pre-oiled floor simple and easy. A little sweeping, a damp mop and that’s it!

The regular use of the products we recommend will preserve the properties of our oil finish and extend the beauty of your floor. Please keep in mind that wood floors should never be flooded with water, but wiped with a soft damp cloth or well-wrung mop for the weekly maintenance needed.

For best results, it is essential to follow carefully the instructions on how to use each product.

Preventive advice and tips

  • Clean your floor regularly with a vacuum cleaner or broom to avoid the accumulation of dust and grit that could scratch your floor.
  • Wood floors should never be flooded with water, but wiped clean with a soft damp cloth or well-wrung mop.
  • Use ONLY maintenance products that are recommended by Ancestral®.
  • Always work in the direction of your wood floor planks.
  • Wipe up spills promptly. Do not let spilled liquids dry on your floor.
  • Use a humidifier or a dehumidifier to balance the relative humidity of your home. 40 to 50% is the optimal R.H. range for good health as well as wood floor performance.
  • Install felt floor protectors under the feet of all your furniture and keep them clean in order to prevent scratches.
  • When moving heavy furniture, place a soft pad or cushioned glides under the legs then carefully move the piece.
  • Over time, wood reacts to light and the color can vary slightly according to the type of wood and the level of exposure. This is a normal and natural process. Rearranging furniture and rugs will help minimize the visible changes.
